In what can be described as a dream cast, Kento Yamazaki and Ryunosuke Kamiki will be acting together in a live action adaptation that is as bizarre as it is unexpected. Based on the manga series written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, Jojo's Bizarre Adventures (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険) will take us into a supernatural, action-horror/thriller trip that may defy genre and gender. (it supposedly targetted male manga fans, but it seems that even female manga readers like it too)

A manga series that has over 95 million copies in print making it one of the best-selling manga series in history, and has spawned a large media franchise that includes several novelizations and video games, action figures, a jewelry line, and even snack foods.

With such 'notoriety' (read: infamously famous), what's the juice behind it?

The plot across these stories is supplied in multi-chapter arcs detailing precarious, melodramatic conflicts between parties defined both by unique supernatural powers, mainly by the versatile Stand phenomenon, and exclusive ambitions, attitudes or moral standards. These arcs vary in tone, alternating adventure, suspense, mystery, and horror; always through action, often with some embedded comedy. Typically, a race emerges among the heroes of a story to intercept a powerful central antagonist.

Many references to modern film, television, fashion, fine art, and (particularly) popular music are readily identifiable throughout JoJo in many settings and both the characterization and nomenclature of the cast. Examples of physical, mathematical and psychological theory, biology, technology, mythology, natural phenomena, historic events, and segments of other artistic work inform the design and functionality of JoJo 's multitude of unique Stands. The series occasionally makes fanciful developments upon contemporary scientific theory in the creation of the routes by which certain Stands and other powers exert their influence on nature. Here's the complete line-up:

  • Arisa Mizuki - Tomoko Higashikata

While this is another live action adaptation, Kento Yamazaki fans and watchers alike have been demanding for a change of pace and type of role for him to portray. Yamazaki, who started out doing dark, brooding characters (Control Tower, The Wings of the Kirin) has been classified lately as a rom-com prince. Aside from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K, Jojo is the most promising of his future roles that have generated a lot of excitement.

Josuke is a tall, handsome young man of average build. He wears a small stud in each ear. The feature most important to him is his well-maintained pompadour, styled after that of an unknown man who saved his life as a child. His pompadour has a tendency to become spiky with his mood, such as when he is irritated or angry. Josuke wears a dark, modified Japanese school uniform. His jacket conforms to his body, extending to the middle of his thigh, accompanied by a pair of wide-legged pants. He kept his jacket unbuttoned and pinned aside, revealing a light undershirt with a short zipper on each side of his chest. [ read more ]

There was news about the actor trying to "bulk up" to prepare for a new role, and it seems being Jozuke Higashikata is that role.

After playing the "heartless" but kind Black Prince, Kyouya Sata in Okami Shojo to Kuro Oji and the fatalistic Kakeru Naruse in Orange, the Jozuke character is a significant departure to both of his previous characters' personalities. Can he do justice to this role?

Ryunosuke Kamiki who made waves as the voice actor behind Your Name and is also doing another high-profile character in March Comes in Like a Lion, has been cast by Takashi Miike to play one of the major roles - Koichi Hirose.

Koichi is a teenage boy of average build, 157 cm (5'2") tall, though he's depicted as shorter than that. He wears a notably unmodified student uniform, otherwise preferring leisure wear. Koichi first keeps his light hair neatly combed back. During his confrontation with Tamami, it gains the tendency to rise into spikes when he is excited (producing a look similar to that of Dragon Ball Z character Gohan at Super Saiyan 2 during the Cell Games). Towards the end of his confrontation withYukako, he suddenly cuts his hair, producing a flat-top, which spontaneously grows out again into spikes during his battle with Yoshikage Kira. The color of his hair varies throughout medias, the most common schemes being blond, blue, or silver.

Koichi is an amiable, but meek youth who undergoes an exceptional degree of character development during Diamond is Unbreakable, becoming more assertive throughout many confrontations with evil Stand users. His greatest leaps are illustrated by the metamorphosis of his Stand, Echoes. One of Koichi's constant trait is his friendliness. Koichi is a nice person, acting polite toward any stranger and acquaintance, and being happy to help. [ read more ]

You can imagine how much respect we have for Kamiki's ability as an actor. From how he transformed himself in Bakuman (modern, contemporary character) and Rurouni Kenshin (historical role), there is simply no way for him not to impress as Koichi. This role is not even a challenge for him, but we'll see!
