While love triangles in movies abound, so is featuring a dystopian future or in the case of Koi to Uso, a world where love is 'exiled' or suspended in favor of more logical partnership. By 'logical relationship' feelings are not considered as important in having a life-long partner.

Love and Lies - Aoi Morikawa

Lies are forbidden and love is doubly forbidden. In the near future, when young people in Japan turn sixteen, they are assigned a marriage partner by the government. People don't have to go through the trouble of looking for someone, and everyone accepts that the country will find a compatible partner to make them happy. Yukari Nejima is fifteen years old. He lives in a small corner of the country, and just can't seem to get ahead in life. Both academically and athletically he's below average. But within him, he hides a heart burning with passion! In this world in which love is forbidden, what will happen to him when he falls in love? [ source ]

Japan continues to be fascinated with love triangles, spinning similar tales with both young and matured characters.

In Love and Lies, casting Morikawa Aoi as one of the leads appears to be the perfect choice since the young actress has done some excellent performances previously - as the druggie in The World of Kanako, and as Miyanaga Chiyoko in the highly dramatic Chokolietta. The role may be in a similar fashion to her character in Too Young to Die! but with more screentime, since she's the lead here. The comparison ends when she gets involved with two young men - Kitamura Takumi, her childhood friend, and Sato Kanta, the young guy who was assigned by the government to be her husband.

Love and Lies - Takumi Kitamura

I'm not surprised that they cast Kitamura Takumi. He's an actor with a lot of potentials and while he's a member of a boyband, he has previously done noted movie and drama roles previously. In WOWOW's Angel's Knife, he did some acting showdown with fellow young actors Shimizu Hiroya and Murakami Nijiro, and an upcoming lead role in I Want to Eat Your Pancreas may further boost his acting career.

Love and Lies - Kanta Sato

Sato Kanta has done a couple of high-profile projects - High and Low (franchise) and Itazura na Kiss. I'm not sure he has what it takes to become a dramatic actor, but this role may not be so hard for him after all. He was quoted as saying:

‘I am happy that I get to act alongside people who are from the same generation as me and perform in a human drama that has such a unique world and shows the hard life of high schoolers. I hope I manage to portray the delicate Sousuke, who has distanced himself from human relationships and grows through his meeting with Aoi and Shiba. We haven’t started filming yet, but the original story is a shounen love story and there is a lot of drama involved, so it can’t just be called a love story. I will give my best to show the unbalanced feelings of a teenager and hope it will be a work you can be satisfied with.’ [ translated into English by Manga.Tokyo ]

Furusawa Takeshi will direct the movie. He previously made Love for Beginners (Matsuzaka Tori) and Another (Hashimoto-Yamazaki). He is also taking the helm for Re: LIFE starring a previous Morikawa co-star, Nakagawa Taishi. I'm not sure about the director's competence since he is not quite consistent - as far as the movies I've seen he directed in the past.

Previously, most live action adaptations will feature an idol (casting is dominated by Johnny and Associates) and a solid, yet not too popular young actor from any of the top casting agencies. In this case, we have two talents who also belong to their respective bands or brand. Kitamura is part of DISH// while Sato is with stage troupe "Gekidan EXILE".
