Looking Back & Moving Forward: Spotlight on Hiroya Shimizu [Part 4 of 4 Parts]

He is tall and handsome
With a sing-song voice that silences birds
When he calls my name, I will always come
To describe his looks, there are hardly words – By Zoe-22-Turner

“It’s that fire from within that might ignite any second” kinda acting. [First entry on Hiroya Shimizu @PsychoDrama]

I have never been impressed with someone as much as I have been in awe with Hiroya Shimizu.

I mean, Nijiro Murakami was excellent in Anohana, and made a big splash in Angel’s Knife, while Shimizu got killed way too early in that under-rated, under-promoted WOWOW drama, but still – Hiroya can show two different faces – a bullied youth in The World of Kanako and a violent “misunderstood” bully in Solomon’s Perjury.

Can anyone else do both roles with the same integrity and impact?

It was way back in November of 2014 when we first mentioned Hiroya Shimizu, with so much buzz surrounding The World of Kanako, his breakthrough movie (together with Nana Komatsu):

What makes him unique? He certainly has the sparks previously exhibited by Yagira and Sometani among others, but his quality tends to be more of the reserved acting style displayed by a younger Eita.

With Masaki Suda, Ryunosuke Kamiki, Kento Nagayama, and Masahiro Higashide leveling up their efforts to take on Sometani, et al.certain, there are certain spaces reserved for breakthrough actors – at the top of the list is Hiroya Shimizu and don’t tell us we did not mention him sooner!

I just re-watched The World of Kanako a few hours ago – wanting to confirm my first impressions of Hiroya and his performance remains captivating, intense, outstanding. I know that Mahiro Takasugi and Shono Hayama also appeared in that movie, but Shimizu simply blew me away!

I am just hoping he gets to grab leading/major roles in the future because at this point – the likes of Mackenyu, Kentaro Sakaguchi, Ryo Narita are being ‘poised’ to get a lot of the spotlights. But in all honesty, I don’t think anyone of them is capable of matching Hiroya even a bit.

So, what’s in store for us and what you need to know about his previous movies:
