I wanted to post this casting news way back, but a lot of things are happening in RL at the moment, so please bear with me.
The live action report is still underway and the countdown to the top 30 hottest Japanese young actresses are also in the works! Speaking of which, we’re featuring three of the top contenders – Mirai Shida, Mitsuki Takahata, and Fumi Nikaido in this edition of the casting buzz! Also in the news are the Kentos – Yamazaki and Hayashi.
This is our second reminder just how much Mirai Shida is admired by the psychodrama community! I was told that the trailer for Nakimushi Pierrot no Kekkonshiki [ 泣き虫ピエロの結婚式 ] is up already and it’s just awesome! Shida’s co-star who happens to be managed also by Ken-On may have been under the radar, but no more! Hopefully, he can be a better alternative to the lifeless Sota Fukushi. Ryusei is the second lead guy in Orange (the Tao Tsuchiya-Kento Yamazaki box office hit) and this time, he grabs the main role opposite Shida.
Also in the news (as usual) is Kento Yamazaki while doing the rounds to promote his latest movie, Wolf Girl and Black Prince, with the incomparable Fumi Nikaido. Not far behind, and certainly making his own set of waves is his namesake, Kento Hayashi, who remains one of the most under-rated Japanese actors around.

“I consider SPARK to be a ten-hour art film, it feels very much in the visual style of KABUKICHO LOVE HOTEL.” https://t.co/1ig6Uy4Qq7

Hibana (Sparks) follows aspiring manzai (Japanese standup) comic Tokunaga (Kento Hayashi), who has been struggling to make it in the world of comedy. On an evening trip to spa town Atami, near Tokyo, for a fireworks festival, he meets the experienced comic Kamiya (Kazuki Namioka). The crazy and cutting edge Kamiya agrees to tutor the younger comic if Tokunaga will write a biography of him. The series follows the pair touching and unique relationship as Tokunaga’s star starts to shine.
Of course, we’ve discussed Wolf Girl and Black Prince many times and while this movie may appear to be very similar to the roles Yamazaki has been tasked to play (Heroine Disqualified, Orange and some upcoming projects too), what I find so interesting is the chemistry that Nikaido can generate together with Yamazaki. I’ve mentioned a few times about their previous collaboration already (they were co-stars, together with Shota Sometani in the TV drama thriller, Atami no Sousakan [ 熱海の捜査官 ] which incidentally is headlined by Joe Odagiri and Chiaki Kuriyama. That’s the ‘notoriously’ famous TV series where Kento showed his butt!
The movie Hero Mania is also in the spotlight with the team up of Masahiro Higashide and Masataka Kubota. Do you know what Kubota and Hayashi have in common? Both played gay roles and while Hayashi may still get tagged as a victim of ‘second lead syndrome’, Kubota has finally cured himself of such title – winning acting awards and grabbing major roles. Hopefully, Hayashi continues to get good and challenging roles too!
Nakatsu (Masahiro Higashide) was laid off at his company and now works part-time at a convenience store. One day, Nakatsu forms a vigilante group to protect his town with Toshida (Masataka Kubota), who has a mysterious physical ability, Kaori (Nana Komatsu), who is a female high school student with excellent information gathering abilities, and Kusaki (Tsurutaro Kataoka), who wields hammers under his sleeves.
As they punish evil-doers, the group gains popular support and flourish. [AsianWiki]
Finally, Mitsuki Takahata continues to get some really amazing projects of late. Her latest buzz is being the voice actor in a new animation called Hirunehime. [ watch it now, it looks amazing ] She’s certainly a star on the rise – we recommend that you watch Mondai no Aru Restaurant and The Vancouver Asahi to get some samples of how good she is!
