It’s been a while since my last casting news post. I’m enjoying the Fall 2017 drama season so much that I hardly had time to catch up with the news and consolidate them here. However, if you’re following our Twitter account, you’ll get the latest updates on all fronts – movies, drama, even some anime.

In this edition, we got details on River’s Edge, Nakagawa Taishi’s Kids on the Slope LA (with Chinen Yuri and Komatsu Nana), plus: updates on Mackenyu, Sakaguchi Kentaro, Kitamura Takumi (who recently celebrated his 20th birthday), and much more!

Superb casting for ‘Biblia Koshodo no Jiken Techo’ LA with Kuroki Haru and Nomura Shuhei!

The live-action adaptation of Antiquarian Bookshop Biblia’s Case Files – Biblia Koshodo no Jiken Techou is in the works! With a 2018 release date, the movie is directed by Mishima Yukiko and follows the everyday life of an eccentric, shy but passionate bibliophile named Shinokawa Shioriko (Kuroki Haru).

She runs an antique bookstore with the help of Daisuke (Nomura Shuhei), the store’s clerk. However, the young man cannot appreciate the ‘wonders’ of books for some unknown reason (later it was revealed that he has a phobia). Their normal lives were suddenly disrupted by the presence of a mysterious man. Shioriko reveals that this intruder intends to steal her rare books and asked Daisuke for help.

Casting News + Scoop! [Oct 19-26] What’s up with Satoh Takeru, Yamazaki Kento, Suda Masaki, Yoshizawa Ryo and Kamiki Ryunosuke? + Spotlight on Taiga, Suga Kenta, and Yamada Ryosuke!

Give or take, we have 8 of the hottest young actors around in this edition of our casting news and scoop! [in no particular order] Suda Masaki, Satoh Takeru, Yamada Ryosuke, Taiga, Suga Kenta, Kamiki Ryunosuke, Yoshizawa Ryo, and Yamazaki Kento. I’d love to add Fukushi Sota, but while he’s ‘hot’, I don’t think his acting has improved at all, unlike Yamada who is doing a few acting milestones of his own.

But why special attention with these guys?

Aside from capturing the imagination of movie fans and critics, they have the charisma to be a level above their peers. Their roles in movies and doramas are not necessarily the main role, but they dive into these characters and made it their own. Most of them have some box office clout, but more importantly, a select list of their movies make sense. These movies have a purpose and people are moved. Their movies are meant to be cinematic experiences but are also fun. (Of course, not everyone likes serious, thought-provoking films, people like to laugh and feel romantic too!). These actors possess a bit of everything and they have exciting future projects people are looking forward to.

Let’s start with Oryo [that’s how his fans call Yoshizawa Ryo, right?]

We’re more than halfway through October, with plenty of casting buzz including live-action adaptation for Mob Psycho 100, Flower’s Bloom (BL) and Poncho, the job-hunting movie Shukatsu. Updates on Hyouka and Matsuoka Mayu’s Tremble All You Want.

From the same author who created One Punch Man, former child actor (he’s now 17) Hamada Tatsuomi headlines the live-action adaptation of Mob Psycho 100 -モブサイコ100. He is cast to play the main character, Kageyama Shigeo.

Casting News + Scoop! [Oct 3-13] Live-action adaptation for Flower and the Beast & Bow then Kiss + Spotlight on Narita Ryo’s latest films!

Two live-action adaptations for romance-related movie/drama are up and a special mention for Narita Ryo, as he celebrates a crowdfunded movie and a short clip! Also, we’re halfway into October and there’s a lot of drama-related activities going on as Fall Season starts! We’ll have plenty of that as we prepare our take (first impressions and possibly, episodic reviews) on Detective Yugami, Rikouh, Kounodori, and much more.

As one of the voice actors in Kimi no na Wa (Your Name) and a member of the boy band in Kiseki: Sobito of That Day, Narita Ryo may have to leave his modeling job for acting. Of course, he’s still one of the most recognizable male models in Japan today. So he’s multitasking at the moment!

Yamada Yuki and Nogizaka46’s Saitoh Asuka headline Japanese version of Taiwanese hit ‘You Are the Apple of My Eye’

Yamada Yuki and Saitoh Azuka will play Kosuke and Mai in the Japanese version of Taiwanese hit You Are the Apple of my Eye, entitled Ano Koro, Kimi wo Oikaketa – あの頃、君を追いかけた. Based on the novel “Na Xie Nian, Wo Men Yi Qi Zhui De Nu Hai” by Giddens Ko, the original Taiwanese movie tells the tale of a group of high school students circa 1994 Changhua County, the smallest but most populated county in Taiwan.

Giddens Ko’s semi-autobiographical novel is literally translated as “Those Years, The Girl We Went After Together”, and stars Ko Chen-tung as Ko Ching-teng, a prankster and a naughty student and Michelle Chen as Shen Chia-yi, an honor student who is very popular with the boys in her class. While everyone seems to be infatuated with Chia-yi, Ching-teng is hardly aware of her presence. However, when he was caught masturbating in class, Chia-yi was tasked to look after him.
