Nijiiro Days live action is underway! Takasugi Mahiro, Nakagawa Taishi, Sano Reo, and Yokohama Ryusei star!

Nijiiro Days or Rainbow Colored Days, the popular shojo manga, written and illustrated by Mizuno Minami will have a live-action movie slated for 2018.

The main roles were already cast and they are Takasugi Mahiro (as Naoe), Sano Reo (Hashiba), Nakagawa Taishi (Matsunaga), and Yokohama Ryusei (Katakura). There were plenty of positive reactions when the anime was aired in 2016, so the expectation is also relatively high for the live-action.

Casting News + Scoop! [April 3-May 2] “Chihayafuru” 3rd film coming up! + Nagano Mei celebrates her new movies + Chinen Yuri, Nakagawa Taishi & Komatsu Nana headline “Sakamichi no Apollon” Live Action!

Fans of Chihayafuru must rejoice as a third installment was announced! Perhaps with an impressive box office showing, there could even be a 4th movie?

New cast includes Yuuki Mio who will play a romantic interest, M!lk’s Sano Hayato as a new member of the karuta team, and Kiyohara Kaya is a rival from a competing team perhaps? The consistent and often underrated Kaku Kento will star as a mentor. The new film is set for release in 2018.

The first two installments of the Chihayafuru LA represent one of the finest examples of how manga should be adapted to the silver screen. For me, the movies were successful because of many factors – (1) Director Koizumi Norihiro was able to condense the story and managed to include relevant scenes that provide smooth character development and story progression; (2) Acting from the leads, especially Mackenyu, Nomura Shuhei, and Matsuoka Mayu, was excellent; (3) The card game battles were both revealing and exciting, and (4) There are no side stories that would have complicated the movie and confuse the audience.

Casting News + Scoop! [Nov 15-16] Spotlight on Taishi Nakagawa (Today’s Kira-kun), Masaki Suda (Teiichi No Kuni), Ryosuke Yamada (Fullmetal Alchemist) & Masataka Kubota’s gender-bender roles!

Taishi Nakagawa is soon emerging as Japan’s shoujo prince with the main lead in Today’s Kira-kun (きょうのキラ君) after playing second fiddle to Kento Yamazaki in Your Lie in April. A lot can happen in a day, and in the case of Japanese movie casting news, there’s plenty to talk about right this minute! I just posted casting news previously!

A teaser trailer showing students reacting to Taishi and co-star Marie Iitoyo romantic overtures in the movie says it all.

2017 Most Anticipated Japanese Movies: ReLIFE (Riraifu) – リライフ [Takeshi Furusawa]

Last October 4, Taishi Nakagawa announced on his official blog that he’d be playing the central role in Re: LIFE. Re: LIFE is an ongoing Japanese science fantasy drama (web based) manga series written and illustrated by Yayoiso. It’s being published by NHN PlayArt on the comico website since October 12, 2013, and already has six volumes compiled by chapters and published by Earth Star Entertainment. The anime version was aired on television on July 2, 2016, composed of thirteen episodes. We posted the casting news last September.

The movie is reported to have an original ending, which may depart (or not) from the original intention of the writer.

Spotlight of the Month: Taishi Nagakawa: From teen actor to drama prince!

Taishi Nakagawa was once asked about playing romantic characters, and if such roles are close to the real Taishi, and he replied:

I’m always interested in playing a character in a love story. It finally came true, but I find it hard showing “sweetness” while acting. The movies “Tsuugaku Tochu” require not only being a sweet guy, but I also need to show different emotions in my scenes. I need to act with sincerity, and hopefully, I did.

At the age of 18, Nakagawa has done a sex-comedy drama (Prison School) while at the same time, fell in love with a tiny girl in My Little Lover (the drama which stars Ninomiya Kazunari, playing the same role eleven years early).

2015 was a banner year for the young actor as he also gets to promote a horror/thriller (Blue Demon v2) too! With more than a dozen TV drama roles to his credit and another six in full-length films, Nakagawa is being groomed to take over roles played previously by Satoshi Tsumabuki, Haruma Miura, and even Sota Fukishi and Kento Yamazaki. But don’t get me wrong. Nakagawa has the acting chops to overtake Fukushi in the talent department and can do drama as much as Kento Yamazaki.

PsychoDrama [Talkback]: Kinema Junpou No 1722. Issue features 50 actors under 30 to look out for + Did they get everyone right? [Part 3 of 4 Parts]

What I like about the 50 young Japanese actors list from Kinema Junpou is the variety of the talents. Many have taken significant roles in movies and drama series. Some have won acting awards – both local and abroad and some also made box office records. Some started as male models and were given supporting, bit parts only to become the lead after a few tries.

As expected, there will be idols, a majority of whom came from Johnny’s and finally there are some newcomers. It’s a bit of an issue to consider someone as a newcomer. For instance, is Hiroya Shimizu and Nijiro Murakami and Takumi Kitamura newcomers? Maybe, but Kitamura is also part of a J-pop band, so that makes him more than just a “pure” actor in a sense. Murakami and Shimizu, therefore, are the newcomers in the strict meaning of the term. That’s not a big issue – I think they deserve to be on the list, in as much as, Yuto Nakajima or Kento Nakajima or Ryosuke Yamada – who all belong to Johnny’s.
