Fullmetal Alchemist live-action from the eyes of the critics [Analysis]

Fullmetal Alchemist, the most popular anime of all time now turned into live-action, is well underway. Just released in Japan December 1st, the Yamada Ryosuke starrer has received plenty of critical reviews from prominent English-language sites.

Yamada Ryosuke himself was reported to have said that maybe a live-action movie is a ‘mistake’.

The ‘Momentum’ of Yamada Ryosuke: Idol, Actor, Entertainer – How is he? [Part 2/3]

There are plenty of articles dealing with the question – what makes a good actor? In Part 2 of our Yamada Ryosuke ‘Momentum’ article, we ask the question: How is he as an actor? (as differentiated to ‘what is he?’ in Part 1).

A good actor ‘internalizes’ the character and makes it his own. A script is as good as the actor who delivers his lines. He needs to make the audience believe that he’s that character and not the star the fans look up to. Critical judgment, therefore, is crucial to make a difference. It’s a fact that fans are beguiled and captivated by the actor’s aura and sphere of influence. After all, the ways of the star-making factory are to make someone appear to be greater than the rest of us. This ‘godlike’ creature can do no wrong, thus the critic is telling lies! Touche!

The ‘Momentum’ of Yamada Ryosuke: Idol, Actor, Entertainer – What is he? [Part 1/3]

It would be easy to dismiss Yamada Ryosuke as a celebrity disguising himself as a dramatic actor if he has nothing to show after 10 years. That seems to be not the case. Born May 9, 1993, he began his ascent as a Japanese idol in 2007 as a member of Hey! Say! Casting News + Scoop! [Oct 19-26] What’s up with Satoh Takeru, Yamazaki Kento, Suda Masaki, Yoshizawa Ryo and Kamiki Ryunosuke? + Spotlight on Taiga, Suga Kenta, and Yamada Ryosuke!

Give or take, we have 8 of the hottest young actors around in this edition of our casting news and scoop! [in no particular order] Suda Masaki, Satoh Takeru, Yamada Ryosuke, Taiga, Suga Kenta, Kamiki Ryunosuke, Yoshizawa Ryo, and Yamazaki Kento. I’d love to add Fukushi Sota, but while he’s ‘hot’, I don’t think his acting has improved at all, unlike Yamada who is doing a few acting milestones of his own.

But why special attention with these guys?

Aside from capturing the imagination of movie fans and critics, they have the charisma to be a level above their peers. Their roles in movies and doramas are not necessarily the main role, but they dive into these characters and made it their own. Most of them have some box office clout, but more importantly, a select list of their movies make sense. These movies have a purpose and people are moved. Their movies are meant to be cinematic experiences but are also fun. (Of course, not everyone likes serious, thought-provoking films, people like to laugh and feel romantic too!). These actors possess a bit of everything and they have exciting future projects people are looking forward to.

Let’s start with Oryo [that’s how his fans call Yoshizawa Ryo, right?]
